A LITTLE KNOW-HOW

About this tool

Escape angle brackets, ampersands and quotes when you need to show HTML as text. Decode mode supports six common named entities and decimal or hexadecimal Unicode references. Unknown named entities remain unchanged.

How to use it

  1. 1

Paste the plain text or entity-encoded text.

  2. 2

    Choose Encode or Decode.

  3. 3

Copy the converted text into the appropriate context.

Questions, answered

Which named entities are decoded?

The decoder recognizes &, <, >, ", ' and  , plus valid numeric entities such as © and 😀. A semicolon is required.

Is this a complete HTML sanitizer?

No. It is a text-escaping utility. Safe handling of untrusted HTML, URLs, attributes or scripts depends on the exact insertion context and may require a dedicated sanitizer.
