A LITTLE KNOW-HOW

About this tool

Encode a query parameter or path segment without confusing its characters with URL separators. Component encoding escapes reserved separators, while full-URI encoding preserves URL structure. A separate form-decoding mode treats plus signs as spaces.

How to use it

  1. 1

Paste the text, encoded component or URI.

  2. 2

Choose the operation that matches your input.

  3. 3

Convert and use the result in the correct part of your URL.

Questions, answered

Should I encode the entire URL or one value?

Use component mode for a single query value or path segment. Full-URI mode preserves reserved separators such as colon, slash and question mark.

Why does a plus sign sometimes stay a plus sign?

Standard percent decoding preserves literal plus signs. Form-component decoding replaces plus signs with spaces before decoding, as in application/x-www-form-urlencoded values.
