A LITTLE KNOW-HOW

About this tool

Get the readable main-body text from a .docx file as a UTF-8 download. Paragraphs become lines, while table cells are separated by tabs. Unicode text is retained; deleted revisions and explicitly hidden runs are omitted, and inserted revisions are included without review markup.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Choose a modern .docx file.

  2. 2

    Extract its main-body text.

  3. 3

Review the result and copy or download the UTF-8 text.

Questions, answered

Does this work with old .doc files?

No. Open a legacy .doc in a compatible editor and save it as .docx first. Renaming the extension is not enough.

Will headers, images or comments be included?

No. This tool reads the main document body. Headers, footers, images, notes, comments and review markup are not part of the output.

A practical extraction checklist

Use a modern .docx file, rather than the older binary .doc format. After extraction, compare the beginning and end with the original and inspect table text separately. The output is main-body text, not a complete archive of comments, tracked changes, headers, footers or embedded objects. Keep the Word file when those details matter.
